Pastoral Staff

Bruce Smithson

As we did chores on our farm, my dad talked to me about my need for Christ and led me to the Lord when I was nine years old. I have been in the ministry since I was 14 and I have done evangelism for the majority of my ministry and have served as a pastor for a few churches. I started attending Buckner four years ago and became a member shortly afterwards. I’m honored to serve as the Pastor since November 2017.

In 1972 I married Rose Cooke and we have a son and a daughter. We have four granddaughters and two grandsons.  We also have a wonderful daughter-in-law and an amazing son-in-law that has helped our children raise their children to know Jesus and to serve in their church.

My favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 3:20. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. This is my favorite scripture because I have a big imagination, and it’s encouraging to know that God can meet my spiritual dreams on an exponential level.

My vision for Buckner Baptist Church is to be whatever God wants us to be in the community. I want to see the church filled to capacity with people we have won to Christ and also with those that have decided to make a commitment to stay faithful to Christ and His work.

My position affords me the opportunity to serve in God’s work, and I’m grateful to be chosen for this mission. I love people, and I’m truly blessed to get to work with the congregation at Buckner Baptist Church.

I would truly love to meet you at our next Sunday service.

Associate Pastor

Gary Jewell

I was saved in July 1970, at Richland Baptist at Mt. Olive and have been part of Buckner Baptist for 25 years. I serve as an Associate Pastor and also teach our Wednesday evening bible study classes. I’m retired, so when I’m not fulfilling my pastoral duties, or visiting those who are ill and need support, I enjoy gardening.

I’ve been married to my wonderful wife Carolyn for over 50 years. We have two girls; Stephanie and Katrina, and are blessed with five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

My favorite verse is John 1:4 “In Him was life; and the life was the life of men.” I believe that this verse gives us hope of eternal life thru Jesus.

I believe that Buckner Baptist’s greatest strength is in the caring for other people.

Come on by and see what makes Buckner Baptist Church special.
